Industrial Displays with USB-C Interface

AMPIRE Paves the Way for USB-C Integration in Industrial Displays
Starting in 2024, Universal Serial Bus (USB) Type-C will be the standard for charging sockets in mobile phones in the EU. In light of this, it makes sense to equip industrial displays with USB-C as well. AMPIRE has developed a controller board that allows integrating their standard displays with a USB-C interface.
Enhanced Connectivity for Industrial Displays
The goal of USB-C is to achieve standardisation and simultaneous miniaturisation of connectors across computers, smartphones, and tablets. The Universal Serial Bus Type C, or short USB-C, offers a range of features beyond the capabilities of the original USB interface. It not only facilitates device charging and data transfer but also enables the connection of displays (even multiple simultaneously), the transmission of audio signals, and the powering of devices.
The new controller board features four different LVDS connectors to accommodate various AMPIRE standard displays. The panel resolution can go up to 1920*1200 pixels. A factory-customisable LED backlight driver with dimming capability further simplifies integration.
If a projected capacitive touch is present, it can also be connected to the board. The touch signal is then available externally via a Mini-USB Type-B connector. If desired, an OSD keypad can also be connected, allowing for the adjustment of parameters such as brightness, contrast, and image position using buttons.
Power is supplied through one of two sockets with 12VDC and 2A.
The board supports the following operating systems: Windows 10 and Windows 8.1, both in 32-bit and 64-bit versions, Ubuntu Linux V19.1/20, and Android from version 5.0 onwards.
Connection to the computer or embedded module can be made either through USB-C or HDMI. This provides a straightforward way to create a USB monitor, an industrial tablet, or an input terminal.
