With the MP27942GY, Monolithic Power Systems (MPS) introduces a highly integrated six-channel digital isolator specifically designed for high-speed digital interfaces and use in demanding industrial environments. The device features a total of six channels - four forward and two reverse channels - and supports data rates of up to 150Mbit/s while providing galvanic isolation of 5kVrms.

Suitable for Harsh Industrial Environments

The MP27942 is ideally suited for applications where digital signals must be transmitted reliably while maintaining galvanic isolation, such as SPI, UART, or GPIO interfaces. Thanks to the high integration of six channels within a single package, the required PCB area is significantly reduced, enabling efficient replacement of traditional optocoupler solutions. In particular, in harsh industrial environments with high levels of interference - such as motor controls or inverters - the IC delivers outstanding performance, featuring a typical common-mode transient immunity (CMTI) of 100kV/µs.

Advantages of Digital Isolators

Digital isolators offer an exceptionally long service life, as capacitive isolation technology is inherently robust and does not suffer from the aging effects associated with optical transmission. In optocouplers, the LED gradually degrades over time, resulting in reduced light output at a constant drive current and a corresponding decline in the current transfer ratio (CTR). More information about digital isolators.

Integrated Failsafe Function

In addition, the MP27942 features an integrated failsafe function that ensures a defined and safe default state. If the input signal is undefined or if the input-side power supply is missing, the device automatically drives the output to a predefined level:

  • MP27942GY: high level
  • MP27942-LGY: low level

This guarantees a safe and predictable system state even under various fault conditions.
