RUBYCON's New MF Series with PMLCAP Technology

Advanced Capacitor Technology

RUBYCON presents the innovative MF Series, based on advanced PMLCAP technology (Polymer Multi-Layer Capacitor). These capacitors provide a highly reliable alternative to MLCCs across a wide range of applications – particularly in compact audio devices, sensors, and portable electronics where high noise resistance and stable electrical performance are essential.

Technical Fundamentals of PMLCAP Technology

PMLCAP stands for Polymer Multi-Layer Capacitor – an advanced multilayer technology that has already proven its value in high-end audio applications such as DC decoupling and low-pass filters (LPFs). Its outstanding electrical properties even qualified it for use in the seismometer of NASA's "InSight" Mars mission.

Key Advantages of PMLCAPs

  • No piezoelectric effect
  • No change in DC bias capacitance
  • Extremely low Coulomb forces prevent electrical distortion and potential acoustic noise
  • High safety: no risk of short circuit, smoke, or fire due to cracks or bending of the PCB
  • Wide operating temperature range up to +125 °C
  • Low-voltage PMLCAPs can replace MLCCs in noise-sensitive applications
  • High-voltage PMLCAPs can replace film capacitors at nearly half the size

MF Series

RUBYCON has introduced the new MF series, a further development of the proven MU series. It offers a capacity increase of 40 to 210% - with the same size.

  • Capacitance Range: 0.033 to 4.7μF
  • Rated Voltage: 16-63V
  • Operating Temperature Range: -55°C to +105°C

By optimizing the internal structure – specifically by increasing the capacitance-related surface area and adjusting the polymer layer thickness – the MF series achieves high capacitance in a compact form factor.

Typical Use Cases for PMLCAP-Based Capacitors

Why Is RUBYCON’s MF Series with PMLCAP Technology a Reliable Alternative to MLCCs?

The new MF Series from RUBYCON combines proven PMLCAP multilayer technology with significant capacity increases and compact dimensions, making it a powerful replacement for MLCCs. The components offer high noise immunity, stable performance across temperatures, and exceptional mechanical safety. This makes them particularly well-suited for applications like compact audio devices, RF circuits, sensor systems, and wearable electronics in industrial and medical environments.
