Mini-LED Display with Outstanding Image Quality by AMPIRE

Powered by Direct Backlight and Quantum Dot Technology

AMPIRE is among the first manufacturers to equip industrial-grade displays with Direct Backlight. Combined with integrated Quantum Dot technology, this significantly enhances image quality. The result is a display with excellent performance: more vibrant colors, up to 20 times higher contrast compared to conventional TFT-LCDs, and image quality that can easily compete with OLED displays.

Edge-Lit Backlight

Standard TFT displays typically use edge-lit backlighting. Here, the LEDs are positioned at the edge of the display, and their light is evenly distributed across the screen via a light guide and diffuser films. This method is proven but requires precise light guide design.

Direct-Lit Backlight

With direct-lit backlighting, the LEDs are placed directly behind the visible display area. Mini-LEDs, approximately 200µm in size and much smaller than standard SMD LEDs, are arranged in a matrix on a carrier board. Despite this, the backlight remains no thicker than the previous light guide solution.

Enhanced Color Reproduction with Quantum Dot Technology

Quantum dots, previously known mainly from high-end TVs, represent another breakthrough technology. White backlight LEDs are replaced by blue LEDs, and a quantum dot film is added, which converts light into very narrow, defined wavelengths. This reduces interference, significantly improves color accuracy, and expands the color gamut by approximately 35–45% compared to the sRGB standard.

Improved Energy Efficiency

Both technologies also increase the display's energy efficiency. Power consumption is reduced because not all backlight LEDs need to operate at full intensity continuously. At the same time, quantum dot technology increases brightness at lower energy usage. This allows overall brightness to be reduced, lowering power consumption and extending the display’s lifetime.
