YEEBO Offers a Solution if a Display Is to Be Made Without a CPU

How can an application be upgraded with a larger display if the controller used is too weak to also manage the display data and control? Or if there is no CPU and you still want to display something? YEEBO now offers a solution: the Smart TFT - a display with a simple interface and a lot of intelligence on board.

Every YEEBO TFT Display Can Be Transformed Into a Smart Device

In principle, any YEEBO TFT display with RGB interface can be made "smart". Resolutions from 320*240 (QVGA) up to 1280*1024 pixels (SXGA) and displays up to a size of 10.1" with 16/18/24bit RGB interface are supported. A printed circuit board is available for this purpose, which can be mounted on the back of the display, for example.

A microcontroller with 32bit Cortex M4 core with 150MHz as well as 512kB Flash and 256kB SRAM takes over the display control and communication with the host system via a UART interface. 128kB SRAM are available as embedded display memory. The board also contains a driver for the backlight, which can be dimmed by a PWM output of the CPU. Updates are possible via USB interface. The integrated real-time clock is backed up by a buffer battery and a buzzer is installed as a signalling device.

If the display has a touch function, this is connected via I²C interface.

The utilised microcontroller offers a multitude of possibilities. In addition to the UART interface for connection to the host computer, there are a total of two other SCI (Serial Communication Interfaces) available for connecting additional peripherals such as BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) or Wi-Fi modules. Two built-in USB interfaces can also be used. SPI interfaces, for example, allow for memory expansion. A 12-bit ADC (Analog-Digital Converter), interrupts, and PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) completes the connectivity options.

The latter input and output ports can also be configured as regular I/Os.

Customizable or as standard version for smart home and automotive applications

On the software side the controller has a hardware graphics accelerator for 2D graphics and geometric functions. In addition to standard functions such as points, lines, ellipses, curves, triangles, rectangles, cylinders and tables, it also supports image mirroring, image rotation, picture-in-picture and much more.

A user interface editor (UI editor) is available to support development. The user interface created on the PC can then be tested and optimised using a UI emulator before it is programmed into the Smart TFT via the USB interface.

These displays can be used in a variety of ways. They can be found in the smart home sector, in vehicles, for industrial control tasks, in the medical sector, especially in beauty care devices, in test devices or in charging stations or vending machines. Wherever tasks need to be distributed, the performance of the existing computer is too low or perhaps no CPU is available at all, the Smart TFT can offer added value in many ways. In addition to the standard version, YEEBO also offers customised adaptations. The board can be tailored to the specific needs of an application.
