Katana, a new SoC for ML and AI Processing
Bringing Intelligence to the Field
The new SYNAPTICS’ Katana platform enhances further capabilities of battery powered edge devices, bringing intelligence to the field by enabling energy-efficient AI endpoint solutions that can make autonomous decisions from data collected by vision and audio sensing.
It provides ultra-low power per inference, i. e. per decision, in a flexible, easy to use AI platform. For complementary wireless connectivity, CODICO offers a variety of modules from AMPAK based on SYNAPTICS’ Wi-Fi and BT products.
Katana is targeted to be deployed in edge devices for office buildings, retail, factories, warehouses, robotics, farms and smart homes and cities. It is designed for a wide range of energy constrained IoT applications, and particularly well-suited for retrofitting, use in remote locations, outdoors and for infrastructure level deployment.
Low Power
Optimised for battery powered applications Katana can operate for more than two years on one single battery. It is equipped with a Low Power ARM M33 core to run the user application code and a HiFi3 Tensilica DSP core for audio algorithms.
Use Cases
The platform can be used to process the following sensor inputs:
Image, sound, voice, temperature, humidity, pressure, current, motion, position, etc.

Katana comes with a SW framework, which has interfaces to the market standard AI and ML development tools. These models are then optimised for the Katana Neural network engines with a compiler.
