Battery Management Systems

Energy Stored in Batteries Calls for Intelligent Solutions

Unsupervised charging of electric vehicles (EV) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV) or storage systems could cause the battery to operate outside its safe operating area. This could result in reduced battery lifetime or even life-threatening situations such as ignition and catching fire.

The following critical conditions may occur:

  • Overcurrent
  • Over/ under-voltage
  • Over/ under-temperature

Therefore, battery management systems (BMS) are an integral part of battery systems. Depending on the design of the system, several additional tasks can be integrated:

  • Cell balancing and protection
  • Monitoring and tracking of the battery state in relation to the remaining life of the battery
  • Checking the charge and discharge

How CODICO Can Support You

As already mentioned, the battery management system is one of the key components of e-mobility. The key to success is high reliability and a high performance-to-weight ratio.

CODICO is able to support you in different stages of your development process. We offer shunt resistors to measure and regulate the current. To protect the BMS from heat, we find an optimized solution for you with our over-temperature portfolio. In addition, we would be pleased to give you an overview of our FPGAs, which can be used to combine and process large amounts of data.
