Smooth Evolution From LTE to 5G

TELIT CINTERION announced the first RedCap (reduced capacity) series module based on the Snapdragon X35 5G modem RF system, enabling a seamless transition from LTE to 5G. RedCap, also known as NR-Light, is a new category of 5G device that fills the gap between high-speed mobile broadband devices and ultra-low bandwidth devices.

Worldwide Coverage

The 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) in Release 17, implemented in 2022, introduced the reduced RedCap 5G New Radio (NR), which aims to fulfil the requirements currently covered by LTE Cat 1 to Cat 4. It is a lightweight version of the 5G standard.

First generation 5G RedCap IoT modules offer worldwide coverage with LTE Cat 4 fallback and flexible form factors. They integrate perfectly with TELIT CINTERION connectivity and services, encompassing NExT data plans, connectivity activation, AppZone and OneEdge. The modules come with multiple SKU options, including fully global variants on all form factors, catering to customers’ diverse requirements across the world.

5G RedCap is designed for use cases in which ultralow latency is not essential, but reasonable throughput is needed to support data flow for next-generation applications. It is useful for wireless industrial sensors, video surveillance and smart wearable technology for instance.
